Quick answer: In most cases one earbud stops working because it did not charge (dirty contacts), or because the two buds lost sync with each other. Clean the charging pins, put both buds back in the case for 10 seconds, forget the earbuds on your phone and pair again. That fixes the large majority of cases. If not, work through the list below.
Why only one side stops
True wireless earbuds are two separate devices that talk to each other and to your phone. If one bud has a flat battery, a blocked speaker mesh or has fallen out of sync with its partner, the other carries on alone.
9 fixes, in the order to try them
- Check it is actually charging. Put the silent bud in the case and look for its charging light. No light usually means dirty contacts.
- Clean the charging pins. Wipe the metal contacts on the bud and the pins inside the case with a dry cotton bud. Sweat and ear wax form a film that blocks charging. This is the number one cause.
- Re-seat and wait. Place both buds in the case, close the lid for 10 seconds, then take both out together.
- Forget and re-pair. On your phone, open Bluetooth settings, tap the earbuds, choose Forget, then pair again. If you see two entries such as L and R, forget both.
- Reset the earbuds. Usually: both buds in the case, hold the case button or both touch panels for around 10 seconds until the lights flash. Check your manual for the exact method.
- Check audio balance. On Android: Settings → Accessibility → Audio → Left/right balance. On iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → Audio & Visual. A slider pushed to one side makes a working bud seem dead.
- Turn off mono audio in the same menu while you are there.
- Clean the speaker mesh. If the bud plays but sounds very quiet, wax is blocking the mesh. Brush it gently with a dry, soft toothbrush, mesh facing down. Read more: How to clean earbuds safely
- Test with another phone. If it works there, the problem is your phone's Bluetooth cache. Restart the phone, or on Android clear Bluetooth storage under Apps → Show system apps → Bluetooth.
When it is a hardware fault
If the bud shows no charging light after cleaning, gets unusually warm, or died right after getting soaked, it is likely a battery or board failure. Stop charging it and contact the brand for a warranty claim. Keep your order ID handy.
How to prevent it
- Wipe the buds dry after workouts before putting them in the case.
- Do not leave one bud out of the case for days; it fully discharges and can lose sync.
- Keep the case above 0%. Deep discharge is hard on small batteries.
FAQ
Why is my left earbud not connecting but the right one works?
The two buds have lost sync. Put both in the case, forget the device on your phone, reset the earbuds and pair again.
Why is one earbud quieter than the other?
Almost always a blocked speaker mesh or an audio balance setting on the phone.
Can I use just one earbud on purpose?
Yes. Most TWS earbuds, including AirSpin, work in single-bud mode. Leave the other one in the case.
